The Southern Liberation Operations Room says it has dismantled what it described as a spy cell allegedly working for the Libyan army, accusing its members of gathering intelligence and providing military coordinates to its opponents.
In a statement released on Thursday, the group said its intelligence unit arrested members of the alleged cell following surveillance operations. It claimed the suspects had infiltrated its ranks and were collecting information on military positions and commanders.
The group attributed the operation to what it described as improved combat readiness and enhanced intelligence capabilities, adding that investigations are ongoing and that further details, including the identities of those involved, will be announced later.
The statement also said the group remains committed to protecting its forces and securing its operations, warning that it would not tolerate any actions that threaten the safety of its fighters.
There was no immediate response from the Libyan army to the allegations, and Al Jazeera was unable to independently verify the claims.
