Benin’s President, Romuald Wadagni, has begun a diplomatic tour of Senegal, Mali and Guinea-Bissau, aimed at strengthening economic and trade cooperation while addressing regional security challenges and advancing West African integration.
According to the Beninese presidency, the visits form part of a broader outreach initiative to member states of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU/UEMOA), which share a common currency and central bank.
During the tour, President Wadagni is expected to hold talks with the highest authorities of the three countries on prospects for economic and commercial cooperation, the reinforcement of solidarity among West African peoples, and key regional security issues.
The trip follows recent visits by the Beninese leader to Niger, Burkina Faso, Togo and Côte d’Ivoire, underscoring Benin’s commitment to regional dialogue, economic integration and stronger cooperation among West African states.
Analysts say the tour comes at a particularly significant moment as West Africa grapples with political and security challenges, including the evolving relationship between regional institutions and the military-led governments of the Sahel. The discussions are expected to focus on preserving economic ties, strengthening regional solidarity and promoting stability across the region.
