Senegalese President Macky Sall has inaugurated the country’s first factory dedicated to the assembly of military vehicles, located in Diamniadio, near the capital Dakar.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Sall said the strategic facility represents a “decisive turning point” and a concrete step toward achieving industrial and technological sovereignty, enabling Senegal to design and produce the defense equipment needed to safeguard its national interests.
The launch comes amid growing security and regional challenges. The president explained that the establishment of the plant is based on a realistic assessment of threats and instability in West Africa, making the development of a national defense industry an “urgent necessity.”
A joint statement from the Ministries of Defense and Industry said the facility is the country’s first public-private industrial unit of its kind, aimed at strengthening Senegal’s defense autonomy.
The plant is the result of a partnership between the private company ISEVEM and the state-backed Sovereign Fund for Strategic Investments.
In addition to its production role, the factory will serve as a national platform for training and technology transfer, helping build local expertise in vehicle assembly, quality control, and maintenance.
