Madagascar’s military ruler, Colonel Michael Randrianirina, has appointed businessman and advisor Herintsalama Rajaonarivelo as the country’s new prime minister.
The appointment followed consultations with the National Assembly. Randrianirina said the selection was made “in accordance with the constitution,” adding that Rajaonarivelo possesses “the necessary skills, experience, and international connections.”
The new prime minister is tasked with forming the first government since the ouster of former President Andry Rajoelina, who fled the country after weeks of popular protests that culminated in the army’s takeover of power.
