A 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck Ethiopia, according to a report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences.
The quake’s depth was recorded at 10 kilometers below the surface.
It follows a series of tremors that have shaken the country since the beginning of 2025, with 29 quakes recorded so far, some exceeding magnitude 5.
These seismic events, coming months after the January eruption of Mount Dofen volcano, have raised renewed concerns among experts about increased geological activity and the risk of another volcanic eruption.
Attention is now focused on the volcanically active Fantale region, which last experienced a major eruption in 1820 following a similar sequence of quakes.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, with growing calls to strengthen preventive measures, raise public awareness in high-risk areas, and intensify scientific monitoring for any potential developments.
