U.S. declares full implementation of naval blockade on Iran amid fragile ceasefire

The United States has announced the full implementation of a naval blockade targeting Iranian ports and coastal areas, marking a significant escalation in Gulf tensions despite a fragile ceasefire.

U.S. Central Command said the operation is now fully operational after its launch on April 13, as part of a large-scale military deployment aimed at monitoring and controlling maritime activity linked to Iran.

The blockade applies to vessels of all nationalities entering or leaving Iranian ports and covers key maritime zones along Iran’s southern coastline, including strategic access points in the Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

Military officials said the operation is supported by thousands of personnel from the navy, air force, and marine units, ensuring sustained enforcement, and noted that the blockade has effectively disrupted Iran’s maritime trade.

At the same time, Washington emphasized that freedom of navigation remains in place through the Strait of Hormuz for vessels not bound for Iranian ports, with the vital energy corridor remaining open under close supervision.

Commercial shipping operators have been instructed to follow U.S. naval guidance, maintain communication, and adhere to maritime advisories while operating in the region.

The move follows the breakdown of recent negotiations between Washington and Tehran, with U.S. officials signaling that diplomatic engagement could resume, though no timeline has been confirmed.

Analysts describe the situation as highly volatile, with the ceasefire remaining uncertain and concerns persisting over the risk of renewed conflict.

U.S. authorities say the blockade is intended to enforce maritime security and apply pressure on Iran within a controlled framework, while keeping diplomatic options open.
