UN Secretary-General António Guterres strongly condemned attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the city of El-Fasher in North Darfur, which have killed more than 125 civilians in recent weeks.
He voiced deep concern over ongoing shelling and clashes in and around Abu Shouk refugee camp, where famine has been spreading since December.
Guterres renewed his call for an “immediate ceasefire in El-Fasher,” along with urgent steps to protect civilians and ensure the safe delivery of humanitarian aid.
UNICEF had earlier warned of worsening humanitarian conditions in the besieged city, under blockade for nearly 500 days, while the Sudanese Doctors’ Network cautioned of an impending health disaster due to severe shortages of medicines.
