Algeria’s Ministry of National Defence has announced the delivery of four helicopters to Niger’s army, along with ammunition, spare parts, maintenance equipment and logistical support, as part of efforts to strengthen military and security cooperation between the two countries.
In an official statement the ministry said the donation was made under instructions from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defence, and on the orders of Army General Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army.
The ministry said two Mi-24V attack helicopters and two Mi-171 transport helicopters departed on Sunday, 9 August 2026, from the secondary deployment base in In Guezzam, within the Sixth Military Region, heading for Niamey Airport.
A military transport aircraft operated by the Algerian Air Force also carried ammunition for the helicopters, as well as spare parts and equipment for maintenance, operational support and logistics.
The Defence Ministry said the operation was part of efforts to strengthen the “fraternal and historic relations” between Algeria and Niger. It also reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to supporting countries in the region in the fields of defence, security and expertise sharing.
The ministry added that the initiative reflected Algeria’s determination to continue coordinating with its partners to promote security and stability across the Sahel region.
