Algeria’s Ministry of National Defence announced on Saturday that the army’s security services had received a German national named Ulumaskan Sinan after he was kidnapped by what it described as an armed criminal group while in Niger.

In an official statement, the ministry said Sinan was received on the evening of Friday, 7 August 2026, adding that he was in good health.

The statement said he was flown aboard a private aircraft from the secondary deployment base in In Guezzam, within Algeria’s Sixth Military Region, to the Boufarik Air Base in the First Military Region. He is expected to be handed over to the German authorities.

According to the same source, Sinan spoke about the circumstances of his kidnapping and nearly two-week captivity. The statement did not provide details of the operation that led to his recovery or identify the armed group responsible.

Sinan thanked the Algerian military authorities for their reception and care and expressed appreciation for the efforts made by the country’s authorities to secure his safe return home.
