Suspected drug lord, Sodapuppy, moved to Netherlands

Colombia has extradited a 44-year suspected drug boss known as “Sodapuppy’’ to the Netherlands, where he was accused of coordinating cocaine and methamphetamine distribution on behalf of Mexican drug cartels.

The public prosecutor’s office in The Hague said on Friday that the Colombian national was taken into custody by officers from the Dutch gendarmerie.

“He is an important player in an international drug smuggling and money laundering operation, prosecutors said.”

He was detained in the Colombian city of Tuluá on July 18, at the request of the Netherlands.

The man is accused of producing the synthetic drug, crystal meth, on a large scale in the Netherlands on behalf of Mexican gangs and smuggling cocaine from South America to Europe.

He was also alleged to have smuggled around 20 million euros (22 million dollars) in illegal proceeds from the Netherlands to Mexico and Colombia.

He is due to be brought before a magistrate on Monday.

According to the ANP News Agency, the public prosecutor’s office is aiming for a trial with the alleged Colombian drug boss and 12 other suspects later this year.
