Official: Washington Withdraws South Africa’s Invitation to the 2026 G20 Summit

The United States has officially announced the exclusion of South Africa from the 2026 G20 Leaders’ Summit, which will be held in Miami during America’s presidency of the group.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio justified the decision by citing the South African government’s “extremist behavior” and its adoption of policies that he said are incompatible with the group’s economic objectives.

He clarified that the invitation will not be extended to the ANC-led government, stressing that the position targets the government’s policies, not the South African people.

The move comes as Washington prepares to host the summit alongside celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the United States, which it plans to use as a platform to present a “roadmap to prosperity” based on the American economic model.
