Sudanese Army Says It Repelled Rapid Support Forces Attack in West Kordofan

The Sudanese army has announced that it repelled an attack launched by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the town of Babanusa in West Kordofan State.

According to a military statement, units from the 22nd Infantry Division managed to thwart the assault, inflicting heavy human and material losses on the attacking forces.

The statement added that the operation resulted in the destruction and capture of several RSF combat vehicles, as well as the killing of several field commanders and hundreds of fighters.

These developments come amid the ongoing civil war in Sudan, which erupted in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF, following the warring parties’ rejection of a U.S.-backed Quartet initiative calling for a humanitarian truce and a ceasefire.
