Two officers from Kenya’s Border Patrol Unit were killed in an armed attack targeting their patrol near the country’s border with Somalia.
Police said the attack was carried out using an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Al-Shabab militants along the Liboi–Kolani road in Garissa County.
Security officials confirmed that the explosion destroyed the officers’ vehicle, killing them instantly. Heavy security teams were deployed to secure the area and pursue the attackers.
The incident is part of an ongoing string of attacks by Al-Shabab against Kenyan forces since 2011, with the militant group exploiting the challenging terrain and limited infrastructure of border regions to conduct its operations.
