Armed clashes erupt between rival factions in Libyan town near Tripoli

The Libyan town of Warshefana, located about 35 kilometers southwest of the capital Tripoli, has witnessed fierce armed clashes between rival military factions.

The fighting broke out between the 55th and 111th brigades — both aligned with the government — in a residential area, placing civilians at serious risk. The clashes resulted in the killing of the commander of Brigade 111, while his fighters withdrew from positions that were then taken over by Brigade 55.

The incident comes amid ongoing security tensions in western Libya, where repeated confrontations between armed groups have taken place in recent months, reflecting the entrenched political and security divisions that have plagued the country since 2011.
