African Union Rejects U.S. Statements on Nigeria

The African Union (AU) has voiced deep concern over recent U.S. statements accusing the Nigerian government of complicity in violence targeting Christians, while hinting at a possible military intervention.

In an official statement, the AU Commission reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of state sovereignty and non-interference, emphasizing Nigeria’s pivotal role in promoting regional stability and combating terrorism across West Africa.

The statement underscored the need to respect Nigeria’s sovereign right to handle its security and internal affairs in line with its Constitution and international obligations.

President Donald Trump’s remarks have triggered widespread criticism, with analysts warning that such rhetoric could have negative repercussions for peace and stability in the region.
