At least 18 migrants have died after their boat capsized off Libya’s western coast, the Libyan Red Crescent reported.
The accident occurred on Sunday evening near the port of Sorman, where more than 70 people were rescued and given first aid at the scene.
The tragedy is the latest in a series of deadly incidents along the Central Mediterranean migration route, which remains the world’s deadliest sea crossing.
According to humanitarian agencies, over 700 people have died on this route since the start of the year, while 61 additional bodies have been recovered along the Libyan coastline in just the past two weeks.
