Coordinated Armed Attacks Rock Northeast Nigeria, Army Says 50 Militants Killed

Armed militants launched coordinated attacks on four locations in northeastern Nigeria, using armed drones and RPGs.

The assailants set fire to a military barracks before Nigerian forces managed to repel them.

Army spokesman General Sani Uba said the attacks targeted three sites in Borno State and a fourth in neighboring Yobe State, injuring several soldiers and damaging military vehicles and buildings.

He confirmed that troops killed 50 of the attackers and recovered large quantities of ammunition.

The assaults are part of an insurgency that has gripped the region for over 15 years, leaving tens of thousands dead and displacing more than two million people.
