Kenyan Opposition Leader Raila Odinga Dies at 80

Kenya’s prominent opposition leader Raila Odinga passed away on Wednesday in southern India after suffering a sudden heart attack. He was 80 years old.

Indian police confirmed that Odinga collapsed during a morning walk with family members and his doctor. He was rushed to hospital, where doctors tried to resuscitate him but were unable to save his life.

A towering figure in Kenyan politics, Odinga served as prime minister from 2008 to 2013 and contested multiple presidential elections over the decades.

Earlier this year, he was a candidate for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission. His death leaves a significant void in Kenya’s political landscape as the country heads toward its 2027 general elections.
