Exclusive – Northern Mali: Azawad Brigade Blocks Russian-Malian Convoy Near Aguelhok

A joint Russian-Malian military convoy carrying urgent supplies to the Aguelhok base failed to reach its destination after being intercepted by the “Ilah Ag Albachir” Brigade of the Azawad Liberation Front.

Footage widely shared on Azawadian social media platforms Friday evening showed a convoy of over 30 vehicles, including six tanks and supply trucks, being shadowed and eventually halted before completing its mission.

Field sources told African Perceptions that the brigade, known for its expertise in landmine placement and tactical surveillance, had been tracking the convoy since its departure and managed to entrap it, thereby disrupting the planned delivery.

Ahmed Abdallah, a journalist specializing in armed groups in northern Mali, stated that the incident is “further evidence of the ongoing failure in coordination between Moscow and Bamako,” adding that “similar setbacks have occurred repeatedly, including a deadly ambush near Kidal just two days earlier.”

This development highlights the growing field control of the Azawad Liberation Front, in contrast to the declining mobility of joint Russian-Malian forces now facing repeated disruptions to their logistical operations.
