Seventeen Nigerian soldiers were killed and four others wounded in coordinated attacks targeting three military bases in Niger and Kaduna states, northern Nigeria.
According to security sources, armed gangs carried out surprise assaults using heavy weapons, resulting in significant casualties among the armed forces.
The Nigerian Army confirmed that the clashes lasted for several hours before the attackers were repelled.
The region has seen a sharp rise in violence, with the military facing simultaneous threats from so-called “bandit” groups and terrorist organizations.
The attack comes amid a deepening security crisis in northern Nigeria.
