Algeria and Mali have agreed to reopen their airspace to civilian and military aircraft and restore ambassadors, according to a statement issued by Mali’s transitional government on Friday.
The statement said Transitional President Colonel Assimi Goïta held talks with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on ways to revive bilateral relations and strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
According to the statement, the two leaders agreed to return their respective ambassadors to Algiers and Bamako and reopen their national airspace to both civilian and military flights.
The Malian government said the agreement reflects a shared commitment to rebuilding relations based on mutual respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Algeria closed its airspace to Malian aircraft in April 2025 following a sharp deterioration in diplomatic relations between the two neighbours.
