UNESCO Designates Algeria’s Theniet El Had National Park as a Biosphere Reserve

Theniet El Had National Park in Algeria’s Tissemsilt Province has been officially designated as a Biosphere Reserve under UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme, joining 13 other newly recognized natural sites worldwide.

The announcement was made by the park’s director, Abdelrazak Lahmar, who described the designation as international recognition of the park’s exceptional environmental value and its important role in preserving biodiversity.

According to Lahmar, the recognition reflects ongoing efforts to protect and sustainably manage the area’s unique natural heritage while ensuring its conservation for future generations.

He congratulated all institutions, experts, and stakeholders who contributed to the achievement and thanked UNESCO and the MAB Programme for their confidence in Algeria’s protected natural areas.

Theniet El Had National Park is one of Algeria’s most important protected ecosystems, known for its Atlas cedar forests and rich biodiversity, making it a site of both national and international ecological significance.
