Malian airstrike destroys militant base in Ségou region killing dozens

The Malian military says it has destroyed a major militant base in the central Ségou region in an air operation that killed more than fifty fighters.

The camp located north of Markala had been identified through drone surveillance as a training and logistics hub.

Two fighter aircraft carried out the strike in what officials described as a precise operation with no civilian casualties reported.

The attack destroyed fuel supplies motorcycles and stockpiles of improvised explosive devices.

The site is strategically located near the Office du Niger agricultural zone and the Markala dam.

Military officials say securing the area is critical to protecting food and water infrastructure.

The operation comes amid intensified offensives across central Mali.

Authorities did not name the group but the area is known for militant activity linked to extremist networks.

The army says operations will continue until full stabilization is achieved.

The strike highlights ongoing efforts to disrupt militant networks in the Sahel.
