Death toll rises above seventy in brutal militant attack in eastern DR Congo

The death toll from a militant attack in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo has risen to more than seventy highlighting worsening insecurity in the region.

The assault took place in Bafwakoa village in Ituri province where armed attackers targeted civilians using firearms and machetes.

Initial reports indicated dozens of deaths but numbers increased as search operations continued.
