Prime Minister Anatole Collinet Makosso has submitted his resignation, along with that of his cabinet, to President Denis Sassou Nguesso, days after the president’s inauguration for a new term.
The move follows established constitutional practice, allowing the head of state to reconstitute the government at the beginning of a new mandate. Makosso expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him since his appointment in 2021 and indicated his willingness to continue serving in any future role.
Despite the formal dissolution of the government, ministers will remain in a caretaker capacity to ensure continuity of state functions until a new cabinet is formed.
The reshuffle follows the presidential election held on March 15, 2026, in which Sassou Nguesso secured a decisive victory, extending his long tenure in power.
In his inauguration speech, the president outlined key priorities for the next phase, including maintaining economic stability amid reliance on oil exports, advancing infrastructure development, and strengthening the country’s regional diplomatic role.
Analysts expect the new cabinet to reflect a balance between continuity and adjustment, with some experienced figures likely to remain alongside new appointments aligned with strategic priorities.
The announcement of the new government is anticipated in the coming days and will provide clearer insight into the direction of the administration.
