Gulf states intercept wave of missiles and drones as regional tensions escalate

Authorities across Gulf states confirmed intercepting a coordinated wave of missiles and drones in a sharp escalation of regional security threats with most incoming attacks neutralized and limited damage reported.

In the United Arab Emirates the defence ministry said air defence systems responded to multiple aerial threats across key locations after a drone strike triggered a fire at the Fujairah oil industry zone on the eastern coast which was quickly contained with no reported injuries.

Authorities however confirmed civilian casualties caused by falling debris from intercepted missiles including one fatality in the Bani Yas area following a similar incident a day earlier in Al Bahya.

Aviation authorities temporarily suspended air traffic as a precaution before announcing the reopening of national airspace later the same day.

In Qatar the armed forces reported intercepting 13 out of 14 ballistic missiles targeting the capital Doha along with multiple drones while one missile landed in an uninhabited area without causing damage.

Debris from interceptions caused a small fire in an industrial zone which was swiftly controlled while the interior ministry confirmed no casualties emphasizing the effectiveness of layered air defence systems.

Saudi Arabia reported a sustained defensive operation with the defence ministry announcing the interception and destruction of 26 drones since early morning in operations aimed at protecting strategic infrastructure in the eastern region without damage or injuries.

In Kuwait the national guard confirmed intercepting two unmanned aerial threats within secured zones while maintaining heightened alert and reinforced security measures to protect critical infrastructure.

Gulf Cooperation Council states condemned the attacks describing them as a dangerous escalation and a violation of international law though no official attribution has been announced despite indications of coordinated operations.

Analysts say the limited damage despite the scale of the attacks highlights the growing effectiveness of integrated air defence systems while warning that continued incidents could disrupt global energy markets and civilian aviation if the pattern expands.

Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant while stressing that defence systems remain fully operational under regional coordination.
