Azawad forces claim attack on military patrol in northern Mali

A statement attributed to Azawad forces said an attack targeted a patrol belonging to the Malian army and fighters associated with what is known as the African Corps in the Salou area in northern Mali.

According to the statement the attack took place at a location about 15 kilometers from the city of Kidal on the road toward Talkout where the armed group targeted a military movement in the area.

The statement said the operation resulted in the destruction of an armored military vehicle and caused casualties among the targeted forces without providing an exact toll.

There has been no immediate official response from Malian authorities or relevant actors regarding the incident and the claims could not be independently verified.

The attack comes amid rising security tensions in northern Mali where clashes between government forces and armed groups continue to occur.
