Military Source Confirms Killing of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi in Zintan

Libya — Tuesday, February 3, 2026 — A private military source has confirmed the killing of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi at his residence in the city of Zintan on Tuesday evening.

The source said Saif al-Islam was killed inside his guesthouse in Zintan under circumstances that remain under investigation.

The information was further confirmed by Abdullah Othman, adviser and head of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi’s political team, who publicly acknowledged his death.

In a separate statement, the 444th Combat Brigade denied any involvement in the killing of Saif al-Islam or in the clashes reported in Zintan. The brigade stressed that it has no military presence or deployments inside the city or its surroundings, and said it bears no responsibility for the events that took place there.

Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, born on June 5, 1972, was one of Libya’s most influential figures prior to 2011. He played prominent political roles without holding any formal government position.

He was released in June 2017 from detention in Zintan after years in custody, following the annulment of a death sentence issued against him in 2015 and a ruling by Libya’s Supreme Court ordering a retrial.
