The Tigray People’s Liberation Front has issued an urgent appeal to the African Union and the international community, calling for emergency sessions to address the catastrophic deterioration of humanitarian conditions in the region.
In an official letter, the Front warned that displacement centres are experiencing severe food shortages and an alarming rise in mortality rates, which could exceed levels recorded during the active phase of the war.
The Front stated that the continuation of these conditions constitutes a violation of the Pretoria Cessation of Hostilities Agreement.
It called for immediate action to ensure unrestricted humanitarian access to all affected areas, including displacement sites in Hetsas, Shire, Adwa, Abi Adi, Adigrat and Mekelle.
The Front also accused the Ethiopian federal government of obstructing the delivery of aid and diverting community-led relief initiatives, asserting that official statements claiming continued support “do not reflect the reality on the ground.”
It further linked the crisis to the unresolved status of more than one million displaced people in western Tigray, describing this as a breach of the peace agreement.
The Front urged the African Union to demand an independent investigation into the obstruction of humanitarian assistance and reported deaths, and to exert pressure for the full implementation of the Pretoria agreement, warning of potential international responsibility should the stalemate persist.
