Saudi Arabia has called for dialogue between Yemen’s rival factions, as the country’s southern regions witness notable military and political shifts.
The appeal comes amid advances by government forces, which announced they had regained control of Mukalla, the capital of Hadramout province, along with its strategic port, from the Southern Transitional Council (STC).
The STC welcomed the Saudi initiative, describing it as a positive step.
However, the latest escalation has exposed clear differences in positions between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, the two main allies within the coalition backing Yemen’s internationally recognized government.
These divergences risk undermining regional stability and further complicating efforts to bring an end to the long-running conflict.
The developments come as Yemen continues to face a severe humanitarian crisis, with differing approaches among key Gulf actors adding another layer of challenge to any comprehensive political process.
