Maduro arrives in New York in custody for federal trial

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores have arrived in New York in custody, where they are scheduled to appear before a federal court in Manhattan.

According to media reports, former U.S. President Donald Trump is seeking to fast-track the indictment proceedings against Maduro.

Trump had previously posted an image showing the Venezuelan president detained aboard a U.S. Navy warship, and threatened to carry out “further and larger” military strikes if necessary, asserting that the couple had been arrested following air raids on Venezuela.
