One Palestinian was killed and five others were injured on Thursday after a fire broke out inside a tent sheltering displaced people at Al-Yarmouk Stadium in Gaza.
In a separate incident, a young girl died after a fire erupted in a tent at the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.
The WAFA News Agency attributed both incidents to the harsh weather conditions that have recently affected the enclave.
The tragic incidents come in the wake of warnings from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which said that around 235,000 people in Gaza were affected by Storm “Byron” in December. The storm led to the collapse of numerous buildings and caused extensive damage to tents housing displaced families.
According to available figures, recent weather depressions have killed 18 Palestinians, including four children, and flooded nearly 90 percent of temporary shelter centres for people displaced by the war.
