The ceasefire in Gaza, in place since October 2025, remains highly unstable, with daily military activity continuing to claim lives, according to reports from OCHA, the Palestinian Ministry of Health, and human rights monitors.
Although the truce formally took effect on October 10–11, at least 439 Palestinians have been killed since its implementation. On January 10, Israeli artillery and air strikes were reported in Gaza City, Jabalia, Deir al-Balah, and Rafah, killing at least three people. Israel said the strikes responded to alleged ceasefire violations, including a failed rocket launch from Gaza earlier this month.
UN experts estimate that around 58 percent of Gaza is currently under Israeli military control or within active buffer zones, making these areas frequent flashpoints despite the ceasefire.
Negotiations on Phase Two of the agreement — involving broader troop withdrawals and security arrangements — remain stalled. Humanitarian agencies warn that without renewed diplomatic momentum and enforcement mechanisms, the ceasefire risks collapsing altogether.
