A United Nations Security Council delegation held meetings on Thursday with members of Syrian civil society and religious leaders from various denominations at the Semiramis Hotel in Damascus.
The meetings are part of a historic visit by representatives of all fifteen Council member states to Syria — the first such visit since the Security Council was established in 1945.
The delegation’s itinerary includes an inspection of destruction in Damascus’ Jobar district, visits to heritage sites, and a meeting with Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa at the People’s Palace.
The program also features consultations with Syrian officials, civil society groups, and committees investigating recent events in the coastal region and in Sweida.
