In new remarks that have sparked widespread controversy, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed strong anger toward Somali immigrants in the United States, calling them “trash” who “make no contribution” to the country, adding that their homeland is “filthy” and that America “does not want them.”
The comments were made during a meeting with his administration, amid a major financial scandal in Minnesota involving allegations of misusing more than one billion dollars in public funds for fraudulent social services, in which some Somali-American individuals are suspected of involvement.
Trump has a long history of directing harsh criticism at minority groups and promoting conspiracy theories, including his previous false claim that former President Barack Obama was not born in the United States.
