South African police have announced that at least 11 people were killed and 24 others injured in an armed attack targeting a bar inside a hotel in the town of Saulsville, about 18 kilometers west of Pretoria.
Police spokesperson Dr. Athlenda Mathe said three gunmen stormed the building at around 4:30 a.m. (02:30 GMT) and opened fire indiscriminately on a group of men gathered inside the bar.
She noted that the victims who died at the scene included children aged between 3 and 16, while 14 injured individuals were transported to hospital for treatment.
No arrests have been made so far, and the motive behind the attack remains unknown.
The incident adds to a series of mass shootings in South Africa, a country grappling with high levels of armed violence. Previous official data indicate that dozens of people are killed every day as a result of such attacks.
