Somalia’s National Council warns that any Israeli recognition of Somaliland threatens regional security

The Somali National Consultative Council has warned that any alleged recognition by Israel of the breakaway region of Somaliland would pose a threat to regional security and undermine stability in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

In a statement issued on Monday evening by the office of the Somali prime minister in Mogadishu, the move was described as “illegal” and a “clear violation of Somalia’s unity and sovereignty.”

The statement urged the Somali people to demonstrate national unity and to resist any declarations or actions that could undermine the country’s cohesion and territorial integrity.

It also stressed the need for all state institutions and the Somali population to stand together in opposing any measures that threaten the nation’s existence and sovereignty.
