The Senegalese government has announced the suspension of all extradition procedures to France, citing Paris’s failure to respond to previous extradition requests submitted by Dakar.
Senegal’s Minister of Justice, Yassine Fall, said the decision is based on the principle of reciprocity, noting that France is seeking the extradition of 12 individuals, while it has not acted on Senegalese requests concerning wanted nationals.
The dispute largely centers on the case of Senegalese journalist Madiambal Diagne, who fled to France and is wanted in Senegal for questioning over alleged financial offences.
A French court has postponed its ruling on the extradition request until February, requesting additional information on Senegal’s legal procedures and judicial guarantees.
Diagne’s lawyers described Dakar’s move as a form of “diplomatic blackmail,” stating that the French court has granted Senegal until January 2026 to submit sufficient legal documentation to support its request.
