The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have declared full control over the town of Babnousa in West Kordofan, describing it as “the army’s last position” in the region.
In a statement, the RSF claimed that allied “Taasis” forces carried out a “precise” military operation that resulted in the complete takeover of the town and the neutralization of threats against civilians. The group said the attack was in response to a surprise military offensive, despite its commitment to a “humanitarian truce.”
Heavy clashes continue across the region bordering South Sudan, where intense shelling on the Kamu area last Saturday killed at least 40 people and injured others, according to multiple sources.
The RSF and the SPLM–North accused the Sudanese army of using a drone in the attack. Human rights reports also indicated that a nursing school was struck, causing numerous casualties among students.
The RSF had previously announced a unilateral three-month humanitarian truce, a proposal the Sudanese army rejected, as fighting continues to escalate and thousands of civilians are forced to flee.
