Residential Buildings Collapse in Morocco, Death Toll Rises to 22

The death toll from the collapse of two residential buildings in the Moroccan city of Fez has risen to 22, following the completion of search and rescue operations.

A statement from local authorities, published by the official website of the National Radio and Television Network (SNRT), confirmed that debris removal efforts have concluded.

Authorities also announced the launch of an investigation to determine the causes and circumstances of the collapse and to identify any construction-related violations.

According to preliminary information, the two buildings were constructed in 2006 under the social housing program “Fez Without Slums,” aimed at low-income families.

The collapse occurred during the night of December 9–10. An earlier toll had reported 19 dead and 16 injured.
