Nigeria has formally apologized to Burkina Faso following the unauthorized landing of a Nigerian military aircraft on Burkinabè territory last week.
The apology was delivered by a high-level Nigerian delegation led by Foreign Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, during a meeting with Burkina Faso’s President Ibrahim Traoré in Ouagadougou.
According to official sources, Tuggar conveyed a message of solidarity from the Nigerian president, stressing Abuja’s commitment to respecting national sovereignty and strengthening bilateral relations.
Talks focused on the circumstances surrounding the “emergency landing” of a C-130 military transport aircraft in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso. The Nigerian foreign minister acknowledged the presence of “irregularities in the flight documentation,” stating: “We apologize for this unfortunate incident.”
He also confirmed that the 11 crew members, who remain in Burkina Faso, are being treated well.
