Moroccan authorities announced on Sunday evening that 14 people were killed and 32 others injured after heavy rainfall and severe flooding swept through the coastal city of Safi.
According to the official Moroccan news agency, most of the injured received medical treatment and were discharged from hospital, while a small number remain under medical observation.
Local authorities, together with all relevant services, have launched a full-scale mobilization to continue searching for possible missing persons, secure affected areas, and provide necessary assistance to residents.
In response to the exceptional conditions, the provincial directorate of the Ministry of Education in Safi announced the suspension of classes on Monday, citing safety concerns for students and educational staff.
Morocco’s national meteorological office had earlier issued warnings of heavy rain, snowfall and strong winds across several regions of the country, including Safi, particularly during the evening and nighttime hours.
Several Moroccan cities have experienced intense rainfall and heavy snowfall in recent days.
