The armed group Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) carried out three coordinated attacks inside Mali.
According to local and media reports, one of the attacks targeted a fuel tanker convoy less than 80 kilometers from the capital, Bamako, destroying at least four trucks, killing one driver and injuring several others.
The attacks also included an assault on a Malian army vehicle in the Ségou region, an operation the group officially claimed.
A third attack struck a teacher training institute in the city of Nioro, leaving one person dead and another wounded.
In response, the Malian army announced it had conducted a series of “firm and rapid” airstrikes, claiming to have “neutralized” armed group members who were taking shelter in a densely forested area.
According to an official military statement, the operations were carried out in retaliation for what it described as “terrorist attacks.”
