Algeria Denies Deploying “Mercenaries” in the Sahel, Dismisses Reports as “Fake News”

Algeria has officially denied media reports claiming it had deployed “mercenary units” to carry out covert operations in the Sahel region.

In a statement, Algeria’s Ministry of Defense described the reports as “false and baseless information,” denouncing them as “blatant fabrications and outright lies.” The ministry reaffirmed Algeria’s categorical rejection of the “logic of force” and its consistent commitment to peaceful solutions.

The statement stressed that Algeria, as a country of the Sahel, cannot be a source of instability in the region, highlighting its diplomatic efforts to help restore security and stability.

The ministry said the allegations were an attempt to “undermine the reputation of the People’s National Army” and to tarnish Algeria’s image, emphasizing that the army operates in full respect of the constitution, the principles of good neighborliness, and non-interference in the internal affairs of other states.

Algeria reiterated its central role in promoting peace and stability in the region, asserting that such “disinformation campaigns” will not succeed.
