The United Nations Security Council on Monday evening adopted the U.S.-sponsored draft resolution calling for an end to the war in the Gaza Strip, with 13 member states voting in favor and Russia and China abstaining.
The resolution endorses the U.S. president’s 20-point plan, urging its full implementation and the preservation of a ceasefire.
It mandates the establishment of a Peace Council to oversee Gaza’s reconstruction until the end of 2027, and the deployment of a temporary international stabilization force tasked with disarming the territory, protecting civilians, and training Palestinian police forces.
The resolution also outlines a mechanism for the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces as the stabilization mission expands its control, and calls on the international community to provide financial and logistical support for reconstruction and stabilization efforts in the enclave.
