Malian state television has reported the abduction and execution of Mariame Sissè, a social media activist known for posting pro-army videos on TikTok, where she had nearly 100,000 followers.
According to reports, Sissè was abducted last Thursday from the market in Tonka, northern Mali, by armed men, before being shot dead in a public square.
The area has long been gripped by conflict between the Malian army and armed groups, including Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), an al-Qaeda-linked organization.
Two local sources confirmed the incident, stating that the abduction took place in broad daylight in front of bystanders.
One of the sources suggested that the perpetrators belonged to a local armed group, though no organization has yet claimed responsibility for the killing.
