Tanzanian President Forms Inquiry Committee Into Post-Election Unrest

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has announced the creation of a special committee to investigate the violence that followed the recent elections, which resulted in fatalities and property damage.

Speaking at the opening of the new parliamentary session, Hassan stressed that understanding the root causes of the unrest is essential for building peace, noting that the committee’s report will serve as a guide for dialogue and the restoration of stability.

She also urged citizens to view elections as a legitimate and safe means of expressing their views and changing leadership.

The announcement comes amid allegations by rights groups that security forces used excessive force, while authorities maintain their response was aimed at protecting public property and restoring order.
