Sudanese army expands control in North Kordofan, recaptures strategic towns

The Sudanese army has announced that it has regained control of the strategic towns of Bara and Umm Siyala in North Kordofan State, marking a new field development in which several positions have been retaken from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

These operations come after the army recaptured Bara, which had been under RSF control since last October.

For its part, the RSF rejected the army’s claims and said it had achieved a “decisive victory” in the battle of Umm Siyala, while military sources insist that the army continues its advance in the Kazgil and Umm Dam Haj Hamad axes.

These developments unfold amid the ongoing civil war that has raged since April 2023, and after a recent escalation in military operations following the RSF takeover of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, late last October.
