The Paris Court of Appeal has ordered the release of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy after 20 days in prison, placing him under judicial supervision.
The decision followed a recommendation from the public prosecutor supporting his conditional release.
Appearing via video link from La Santé prison, the 70-year-old described his time behind bars as a “difficult and painful experience”, vowing to continue “fighting for the truth.”
In late September, a criminal court sentenced Sarkozy to five years in prison, including two years of actual imprisonment, over alleged Libyan financing of his 2007 presidential campaign — charges he repeatedly denies, calling the case an act of “hatred and revenge.”
