South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said the United States’ decision to skip next month’s G20 summit in Johannesburg will not affect the meeting’s proceedings or outcomes.
His comments followed President Donald Trump’s announcement that no U.S. officials would attend, accusing Pretoria—without evidence—of “persecuting white farmers.”
Speaking at a press conference, Ramaphosa insisted the summit would go ahead as planned and that “key decisions will be taken even without Washington,” noting that other world leaders have confirmed their participation.
The U.S. move comes amid rising tensions between the two countries, further strained by South Africa’s case before the International Court of Justice accusing Israel of committing “genocide” in Gaza.
